Bad automation opportunities:

If not, don't automate.
2. Will it feel good if it fails? If your automated email doesn't send, customer doesn't get crucial information. Bad.
Only automate things where failure has low stakes or is recoverable.
3. Does this free humans for better work? The admin person spends 2 hours/day on data entry that could be automated.
That freed time goes to customer conversations instead.

4. Is it simpler than the current process? If automation makes it more complicated (requires special training, 5 steps to use), it's not worth it.
5. Can we automate the common case and handle exceptions manually? Most customers fit a pattern. Automate for them. Exceptions get human attention.
Example: Auto-approve refunds under £50 in first 30 days. Refunds over £50 or after 30 days get manual review.

Example 1: The Service Business
